Yeah it may seem a bit strange that I'm about to tell you some of things I hate about Twitter...when I happen to spend most of my time on it. Yes...I love Twitter and the positives far outweigh the negatives, but sometimes it all gets a bit much and I find myself running to hide in a dark corner somewhere.
Right...five things I hate about Twitter in no particular order:
1) Trending topics that exclude me.
I'm pretty sure that most people reading this took part in #InAnAfricanHouse a couple of weeks ago. And yes I'm sure it was hilarious...FOR YOU. However, I was deeply saddened that I couldn't join in because obviously I don't come from an African household. Some people tried to turn #InAJamaicanHouse into a thing but it never took off. It also mainly revolved around Jamaican children not knowing who their father is. I thought that joke died out in 2001. I hate feeling of being left out so I became bitter, signed out and went to bed in a strop. LOL
2) Spam
Sometimes a girl just wants to tweet about her iPhone or about how I'm flopping at my latest diet without being spammed about 100 times by robots and their irrelevant questions.
3) The bashing of black girls.
Lately I've started following a few more black males on twitter...mainly because some of their tweets that I had seen retweeted onto my timeline had me in stitches. However, these jokes come with a dark side. My timeline now seems to be half filled with the love of 'lighties' to the detriment of black girls. Its ok to lust after a 'lighty' and long as you don't feel the need to express how ugly you think black girls are at the same time. Call me bitter, but seeing this everyday is giving me heart problems. If half of these guys had the chance to study slavery in depth, I think they may actually be disgusted with themselves. I would hope.
4) Thinking my tweets are about you.
Need I say anymore? But usually when you think someone is indirecting you in a tweet, it's because you recognise some of the bad behaviour being tweeted about in yourself.
5) The death of grammar.
Maybe it's because I did half of my degree in literature. Maybe it's because I'm a bloody control freak but sometimes my blood boils when I notice people deciding to continuously rape the English language on Twitter. By all means write 'gonna' instead of 'going to'...I do this. Even use slang, no one's arguing against that. But why must you completely change the spelling of words which do not need to be shortened? Why say 'wah' instead of 'what'. I'm not saying everyone needs to be Spelling Bee champions but please...think before you tweet. We all went to school guys.
Hope you enjoyed reading!
Number 5...haha! The worst thing is when people are tweeting about how bad other people's grammar is and they spell something wrong! By all means remain ignorant but don't think yourself above others when you are just as bad! That makes it worse somehow xx
ReplyDeleteTotally agree...it hurts my soul lol
ReplyDeleteUgh, ALL of these things annoy(ed) me too!
ReplyDeleteI think I actually tweeted my feelings on the #InAnAfricanHouse and #InAJamaicanHouse TTs.
Honestly I'm considering getting rid of Twitter for good...it's just not the same anymore :/
You can't get rid of it...my timeline won't be the same anymore! :(
ReplyDeleteLol :)
